Pull-apart Snowman Cake
This recipe is so fun to make! I really like a cupcake design where you can be creative and make it your own! And it will be a show stopper at any Holiday gathering!
Yields 24 cupcakes
24 cupcakes (flavor of your choice)
4 cups of vanilla buttercream
Orange fondant
Green and red food coloring
Chocolate sugar cookies
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp cocoa powder
1/3 cup butter
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
- In a small bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Set aside.
- Cream the butter and the sugar with an electric mixer.
- Incorporate the egg and vanilla into the butter mixture and mix with an electric mixer.
- Incorporate the flour at first with the electric mixer and eventually with your hand once the batter is thicker.
- Form a disc with your dough and place it in the fridge for a couple of hours.
- Preheat the oven to 375F. Roll out the dough onto a floured surface until you get roughly 5mm thickness.
- With cookie cutters or piping tips, cut out 3 circles (1 1/2 inches diameter), 2 circles ( 1 inch diameter) and 7 circles( 1/2 inch diameter).
- Create a hat shape stencil with paper and scissor. Cut out the snowman's hat using the hat shape stencil and a knife.
- Bake for 3-8 minutes. Since you have different shapes, baking time will vary. Smaller shapes will take 3-4 minutes and the hat may take up to 8-9 minutes. Keep an eye on the cookies and take them out when ready.
- Let cool down on a wire rack.
Assemble your cake - Place 2 cups of white icing in a piping bag with a star tip. Set aside.
- Color 1 cup of the icing in red and place in a piping bag with a star tip. Set aside.
- Color 1 cup of the icing in green and place in a piping bag with a star tip. Set aside.
- With the orange fondant, create a carrot shape for the nose. Set aside.
- Place your cupcakes in the shape of a snowman. I used 14 cupcakes for the body and 7-9 for the head. I used 2 cupcakes to keep the hat from falling, I made it too big.
- Pipe swirls on the body and head with the white icing. Keep in mind that there will be a scarf around the neck.
- Pipe short vertical lines alternating with red and green icing between the head and the body to create the scarf. (See picture)
- Place the 3 big round cookies in the centre of the body to create the buttons.
- Place the medium size round cookies on the head to create the eyes.
- Place the small round cookies in the shape of a smile on the head to create the mouth. Place the nose in the center of the face.
- Place the hat on top of the head and decorate with red and green icing.
